Surgery Prehab

Purpose of Surgery Prehab

Preparing for surgery involves more than getting ready for the procedure itself. Surgery prehabilitation helps you prepare physically and emotionally for what’s ahead while supporting your recovery afterward. At Rehab Medicine of the Carolinas, our program brings together several services to address your health, physical function, and individual needs before surgery. These services include:

  • Full functional assessment
  • Pain, anxiety, and other symptom management
  • Physical therapy
  • Nutritional evaluation (nutritional labs if needed, supplementation to help with nutritional optimization, immune function, and wound healing, weight management)
  • Physical conditioning
  • General fitness evaluation
  • Bone health evaluation
  • Education
  • Psychosocial evaluation
  • Training for use of durable medical equipment that may be needed after surgery

Build Success before Surgery

Preparing for surgery is an opportunity to take an active role in your recovery. We believe that participating in our surgery prehab program can help improve functional and health-related outcomes following surgery, giving you a stronger foundation as you move into the recovery process.
