Geriatric Rehab

As we age, our bodies undergo progressive changes in virtually all organ systems. For example, we have a progressive decrease in cardiac output, decreased pulmonary vital capacity, higher incidence of pneumonia, and changes in connective tissue elasticity which can predispose people to pressure ulcers and skin breakdown. We also have decreased skin sensation, overall muscle mass decreases, and impaired ability to regulate changes in temperature. Our neurologic system is also affected as we have decreased short term memory, slowed processing of new information, and decreased proprioception leading to balance deficits and coordination problems. Further, our urinary, renal, and gastrointestinal functions are also affected.
Dr. Hill is aware of and very sensitive to the needs and problems that seniors face. She has extreme caution with strong prescription medications and will search for other forms of treatment to reduce the likelihood of adverse side effects in this vulnerable population.
Our physical therapist, certified fitness trainer, and Dr. Hill work together as a team to provide an appropriate medical, functional, and wellness plan, specifically tailored to the geriatric patient.
